Nomex has excellent chemical-, thermal-, and radiation-resistance. It’s a para-aramid thread, so it’s related to strong aramids, like nylon and Kevlar. Nomex isn’t quite as strong as Kevlar, but it still has heat-resistance that’s helpful in protective workwear, as well as in aircraft construction. It’s similar to a honeycomb structure, and it creates a fireproof barrier in firefighters’ face masks, flight suits, gloves, socks, and helmet linings (among other helpful fire-resistant gear).
