Waterproofing is the act of making something resistant to water, and in this case, that something includes workwear. Water and moisture can’t penetrate a material when it’s 100% waterproof, and even humidity is prevented from penetration. In rain coats and waders, waterproofing is a necessity if you and your clothes to stay dry. Sometimes the main material is waterproof, and other times there’s a water-resistant finish that’s applied to the exterior to prevent water from seeping through the canvas (or whatever material is used in the rain gear).
