Workwear Fabrics: What you Need to Know

workwear fabric blog

If your work is tough, you need work clothes that are just as tough. You need clothes made for working people, workwear that can withstand the rugged job you put them through. You need workwear that is durable, comfortable, and protective, from the best brands like Carhartt, Wrangler, Bulwark, Filson, Dickies, Red Kap, Under Armour, Wolverine, and more.

When it comes to deciding on the right work clothes for your particular job, it often comes down to the type of fabric you choose. Cotton duck is the most popular fabric for workwear. It is weighty and strong, coming from the Dutch word doek, which was a fabric once used to make clothing for sailors. It’s also the same type of fabric used to make sails, tents, shoes, sand bags, and other rugged products, since it is so resistant to tearing and can handle rough use. Continue Reading…

Wolverine: Workwear and Work Footwear You Can Count On!

WolverineLogo WPS Blog

Established in Rockford, Michigan in 1883, Wolverine made the original boots that helped build the railroads, the skyscrapers, and the highways, that laid the foundations of the USA we know today. And their patented 1000 mile boot set the standard for long-lasting work gear, all the way back in 1914.

In 1991 came the revolutionary Wolverine DuraShocks that changed the game for the working person, with compression pads in the heel and the forefoot, absorbing shock and returning it to the foot as useable energy. And that is technology they still use today, updated and reworked based on the feet out there on the working sites around the world. Continue Reading…

Wear the Right Socks!

work sock safety

With the weather warming up, it’s time to get back outside and get  back to outside work. And on the days when the sun is beating down, you’ll feel it on your neck, and you’ll feel it on your feet. For those of us who work outdoors, we know that the sweatiest, smelliest part of the whole day comes right down to your socks. Which is why wearing the right work socks can make all the difference.

Whether they are made of cotton, acrylic, polyester, or anything else, the three biggest things we’re looking for are comfort, support, and durability. And these things can be accomplished in a number of different ways. For instance, when it’s warm out, the biggest thing that can help achieve comfort is a pair of socks that are designed to keep you cool. And since warm weather plus work tends to equal sweat, it’s important to have socks that keep you dry too. Moisture-wicking socks like Coolmax socks from brands like Wigwam and Thorlos are some of the most popular for accomplishing these goals. Continue Reading…

Stay Safe, Be Seen, Wear Hi-Vis

High Visibility Workwear

It all began when Bob Switzer, an American would-be doctor got injured at work. Instead of reading and resting up, he spent his recovery developing a new kind of luminescent paint, that he hoped would help other workers avoid his fate. He also decided to try it out on his wife’s wedding dress, so he was as brave as he was creative.

Hi-vis clothing is everywhere now and it’s impossible to ignore – the very secret to its success.

And though it started as safety wear for work, studies across the world have all found that to be seen is, ultimately, to be safe. So for cyclists, pedestrians, and all other road workers, high visibility is an important to your workwear.

But it’s always been most vital right where it started out, for workers in all kinds of industries, where being seen is part of your occupation.

Hi-vis or HV is just as important as the tools you use. Simply put, it saves lives. So as you might expect, it comes with Continue Reading…
