How You Can Honor Memorial Day This Year

3482

This Memorial Day weekend, we’d like to say thank you to all the service men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Working Person’s Store is proud of our members of the military both past and present, and we’re grateful to have a chance to honor them during this observance. Our nation is stronger and safer because of their valor and patriotism.

Memorial Day is a special time for Americans to gather with friends and family to show respect for our fallen military heroes. This tradition began after the Civil War–which claimed the lives of an unknown many soldiers. Today, we continue this holiday by having parades that feature military veterans, visiting cemeteries or memorials, or by simply taking time to pause and enjoy our freedom with outdoor picnics.

No matter where this Memorial Day takes you, you may want to set a reminder for 3 p.m. for a chance to join with fellow Americans to pay your respects. In 2000, Congress passed The National Moment of Remembrance Act. This designates one minute on Memorial Day–at 3 p.m. local time–for Americans to pause and remember the men women who “died in the pursuit of freedom and peace.”

If you’re looking for more ways that you can pay homage this year, the Memorial Day Foundation website offers the following suggestions:

  • Wear your Memorial Day Button.
  • Visit cemeteries and place flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.
  • Fly the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.
  • Attend religious services of your choice.
  • Visit memorials.
  • Participate in a “National Moment of Remembrance” at 3:00 PM local time, to pause and think upon the meaning of the day and for taps to be played where possible.
  • Renew a pledge to aid the widows, and orphans of our fallen dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.

At Working Person’s Store, we’d like to further commemorate this special holiday, by providing a discount on all of our merchandise that’s made in the U.S.A. Now through Monday, all of our American-made gear will be marked down by 15%. We’re proud of the apparel we provide that was created by men and women in our country. Our U.S.A. made products include items like boots, shirts, kneepads, knives, socks, caps, wallets, gloves and belts. This wide selection comes from many trusted brands like Thorogood, Wigwam, Filson, Gerber and more. View our full selection of U.S.A. made products.

Our founder and president Eric Deniger served in the U.S. Army and so we’re humbled as an organization to be able to give back to the veterans who have given so much for us. For example, each fall we are fortunate to participate in the ‘Michiana Military Stand Down’ event, which gives veterans in need and their families a second chance through various resources and support. As an additional thank you, our veterans and active military receive 10% off all Working Person’s Store products, year round.

Happy Memorial Day from all of us at Working Person’s Store. Let us know what ways you plan to celebrate and pay tribute to America’s heros.
